Critical Appraisal - Day 1 of a 2 Day Workshop - Run Annually
This introduction to Critical Appraisal, with John Blenkinsopp is for all staff who need to learn how to appraise primary research.
Course Tutor
Clinical Effectiveness Advisor and Deputy Clinical Effectiveness Manager at North Tees and Hartlepoole NHS Foundation Trust, John has been teaching Critical Appraisal for 15 years, originally as a tutor at the residential courses run by Durham University and also for the BMA since 2002.
He used to be a business researcher for the Financial Times and the BBC before moving into academic librarianship where he started using his business information skills within healthcare. His work has been published extensively and include writing a new critical appraisal course for BNF editors and a number of NHS Trusts.
The course
No preparation is needed for this course but participants may like to have a look at Trisha Greenhalgh's 'How to Read a Paper' if they need some bacground before the day. Copies of this book are available for loan in the Library.
How to Apply
Places are limited and free of charge. However, a charge of £100 will be made if you fail to attend on the day or cancel without providing 48 hours notice.

e-Learning Drop-In Sessions every Wednesday at Lister
The library is running ESR e-learning drop in sessions every Wednesday from 9am - 4pm. These are not taught sessions but offer a quiet place in which to do your e-learning with staff on hand to support you if you run into difficulties.
If you're need to do some e-learning away from work or if you are experiencing problems with your smart card or enrolling onto a course, why not drop in on Wednesdays and our friendly staff will do their best to assist you.
If Wednesdays aren't convenient, just give us a call or e-mail us to arrange an alternative day.
